| What is ITS?
Intelligent
Transportation Systems (ITS) is the next step in the evolution of
the transportation system. As information technologies and advances
in electronics continue to revolutionize all aspects of our modern-day
world, the same is being done to the transportation system. ITS
technologies include the latest in computers, communications, electronics,
monitoring, and safety systems.
GVMC & ITS The Grand
Valley Metropolitan Council (GVMC) acting on behalf of its member agencies,
is currently consulting with HNTB and Iteris to update the ITS planning
and operations documentation for the Greater Grand Rapids Region.
This project will establish a framework for achieving the goal of
enhanced regional mobility. If you have any questions, or would
like to be notified when the next ITS Steering Committee meeting
is being held contact Jim Snell.
As part
of the ITS Study, a regional Incident Management program is being
developed. The tasks of this program are to:
- Form a Grand Rapids Area Traffic Incident Management
Team (GRTIM)
- Identify "early winner" projects
- Develop a comprehensive regional traffic incident
management resource manual
