Increased traffic within an area is directly correlated to an increase in population, or the addition and/or expansion of a major traffic generator (shopping mall, industrial plant, convention center, regional arena, etc. Georgetown Township’s growth since 1970 is shown in map above.
In Georgetown Township’s case, while no single traffic generator within the township can be identified as a major contributor to population growth, two factors that likely do contribute to growth are:
Its location to the growing metropolitan area of Grand Rapids and its need for housing, and
Its proximity to the rapidly growing GVSU.
The completion of the South Beltline freeway in 2005 will likely only continue development within the township, as access to the township improves.
